FAQ for Admin Functions

Although we are primarily focused on everyday users, and much of our technical documentation is in the code, there is still a need for admin FAQs — especially on tactics and approaches. Here we are!

Q: “How do I limit or reset SMS caps and preventing cost overruns with ‘throttling’?

  1. Verify that you’re over capacity. After you log into Hive, the main page will show a box for “Message Traffic” and if you see “Limit Remaining” with a negative number, then yep – you’re over the limit you set.
  2. To reset the limit, log into the admin console and edit the Site Settings under “Hive Mechanic Game Builder”. Shortcut: https://…/admin/builder/sitesettings/
    1. Open the site settings listed – there is usually just one
    2. We recommend editing the “Message of the Day” to log what you’re doing. For example, we might say “We set a throttle limit of 4,000 messages + calls on 5/17/2023″
    3. If you’ve set the throttle before and are comfortable with that number, just click “today” next to “count messages since”. This will effectively start the counter over beginning today. We recommend a total message limit that’s comfortable for your budget and burn rate. For example, one active project was doing about 5,000 messages every six months, and so we picked 5,000 to keep us checking in every 9 months.
  3. Each integration needs to be turned back on, but only after the message limit has been reset above. To turn on an integration, log into admin console and edit that Integration. Direct link: https://…/admin/integrations/integration/
    1. Edit the integration
    2. Scroll to the bottom of the integration and check “Enabled”. That’s it! (And yes, we disable all integrations for a server if the message limit is exceeded.)
